Wiring the speakers to a central place requires wires to run from each speaker back to a central cabinet for connecting to a large amplifier. This may be difficult in some applications when it is impossible to fish wires through walls.
The other option is a wireless-like system know as Sonos. Sonos allows you to wires each room individual while each room communicates wireless to each other to pass the music from throughout the home. Sonos is a great option for homeowners who want a quick and easy to use system with a user friendly interface. One of the best things about Sonos is that you can use an IPod or Smart Phone to control the music
