The home theater receiver is the brains of any home theater.  It is the single most important element in your system and likely the one you will own the longest.  If there was a place to skimp on budget, this is not the place.  Even expensive surround sound speakers will perform poorly if not connected to a receiver that is able to handle and filter the proper channels to those speakers.  There are several brands out there and not all are created equally although they all seem to have a model around the same price points.
